Work from Home: Some Time Management Tips

The opportunity of working from one’s own home helps him or her to spend more time with the family besides working for long hours. However, often managing time between work and family becomes extremely difficult even for people working form the home. The tips provided below will rid you from this difficulty:

  1. Even if you are working from home, you must dedicate a particular area of your home as you home office. Working becomes extremely difficult, if you need to find important documents and objects related to your work by sifting through toys, magazines and other household items. If you fail to designate a particular room as office due to lack of enough space in your abode, you can also convert a particular corner of your room as your home office.
  2. Schedule the time of working and stick to it without fail. You may eat, play with your kid, spend time with your spouse at different times of the day, but make sure you are working at the same time every day. Fix the working hours depending of the deadline you generally have for your projects. You should plan the working hours in advance (planning a week before will be great) to manage time perfectly. For mothers of infants, the best working time is when the baby takes a nap. If the children are grown up and go to school, the best time of working for the mother would be when they go to school.
  3. While working, stay away from interruptions. Pick up phone calls only if they are emergency calls. Never do any of the housework while working.
  4. Avoiding interruptions does not mean avoiding taking breaks. Breaks are taken even by people who work at an office outside their home. Take a 1 hour break for having lunch and then again around the afternoon, you can take a 15 minutes break for having a cup of coffee. Taking these breaks will make sure that you don’t become burnout or fatigued.
