Starting a business is no different from a baptism by fire

Money is often the biggest differentiator between a businesses success and its failure. If you have a full time job and plenty of money in the bank, you can save up money for a while before starting a business. But what if you find yourself in trouble before long and notice that your capital was insufficient? It doesn’t matter whether a business requires only a little capital initially or not, starting a business can be an absolute pain, make no mistake about it. Without the benefit of a steady income, your financial situation might start to worsen by the day as your daily expenses need to be met on a continuous basis.

Perhaps the easiest way of starting a business is to take on the franchise of some large corporation. You are paying money for their goodwill and standing in the market more than anything else, but all of this comes at a price. Investing in a franchise requires thousands of dollars, sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars. This is why the franchise model is not the best way of starting a business unless you have plenty of cash in hand and have done your due diligence to know that the franchise will be a success based on its location and market demand. If all you have is a little cash, the best thing to do is to set your sets as high as you can and start small. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Perhaps it makes a lot of sense to hang on to your day job while you are starting out your business eventually. This is because that day job acts as a safety net of sorts, helping you keep up with your living expenses at the very least. This can be a very tough task to accomplish, but no one ever said going down this route will be easy. The hours will be long, you’ll be tired as hell and it will be hard work. You will have no free time and you can kiss your social life goodbye. Personally, I wouldn’t advocate going down this road but some people do this and they’re better off for it, so think about this keeping your own unique set of circumstances in mind.

If you have the know-how and the money needed, all you will need are the customers to keep the money pouring in. And even then, there will be expenses that need to be made in order to keep your business running at all times, let alone growing. Things such as stationery might seem small in the larger scheme of things, but the fact that it is a recurring expense means that you need to factor it into your expenses when starting a business. Also consider the possibility of online businesses, since they are less time consuming and forgiving in their own way. As always though, look at your interests and commitment before okaying it, for without those things there will be no success to be had.
