Do Leaders Count On Emotional Quotient?
Leaders are not born they are made, as they say, stands true to their characters. No human being is born with everything he has achieved in his life, there are some innate qualities and some are achieved from their life’s experiences. Talking about leaders let me tell you they are finally humans after all and they have a thinking process too nonetheless like robots of today’s X generation. People keep expecting and more expectations from leaders, but fail to understand they are bound by company’s rules and regulations. When it comes to emotional quotient, there are leaders who share a cup of coffee over the table with their juniors, and there are some who like to maintain their status in companies and like to stay aloof from them. When your employees take you as their leaders, there is some attraction in you, some charisma that lets them keep coming back to just you because you are their leader, and they are your followers.
All human beings have this natural tendency of expecting to get loved, we live our life we the love that we get from our elders, don’t you try to achieve everything for your family that loves you so much. When employees are working in a company, it is like their second home and they expect some appreciation like family members do, some love like families do, a leader is a person people look up to in a company and that comes natural, given the fact that they respect their leaders, as a person, and as an individual who is going to guide them in further process. Leaders are sometimes locked in a fix, when it comes to deciding, between the professional and emotional quotient, a leader cannot do anything more than just appreciating his employee. A successful leader would really work hard in captivating his audience and keeping them hooked under his banner, here are some of the things which as a leader you may have had conflicting issues:
- There is a difference between a colleague and a subordinate; some leaders out of compulsive competition with other leaders try to attract attention from their juniors by sharing same table with their subordinates in office canteen. Although there is nothing wrong in it, care should be taken that the leader doesn’t go overboard and that the juniors stop treating a leader like a leader. A leader has a position in a company, which people look up to, it shouldn’t get brushed by misleading characters.
- The leaders at the upper positions find themselves in a lonely environment sometimes, and they may take help from their colleagues or close juniors, they may confide in to what is troubling them. The people working in an organization are looking for a leader, the one they can look up to for expressing their fears and doubts, if a leader comes across such a situation the best idea is to communicate rather than hiding behind the bushes.
- No leaders goes unaware of what is going on in the team, when employees start expecting too much from their leaders, it becomes a little uncomfortable. If it’s the leader who is always guiding them, when can employees be of work? A leader should check with them if they are facing any problems and help them improve upon their performance too.
A leader is loved by all for his good deeds but its only when a leader goes overboard, the employees stop respecting him. Employees should stay in their limits and follow their leaders religiously (only in companies), I specify!
